Why you should choose school janitorial jobs over other janitorial positions
While there are exceptions for the aforementioned salary depending on the location of your job, most janitors regardless of their work station make around the same amount annually. However there is a slight increase in overall earning potential for school janitors over other janitorial positions.
This is because school janitors are often employed at the same place for long periods of times, thus gaining benefits that other janitorial staff working at office buildings or stores might not receive.
According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics janitorial staff employed at educational facilities are the second highest paid, only slightly lagging behind janitors employed by local government agencies who make on average $1,500 more annually.
Benefits offered to school janitors
School janitors that are employed full time can expect to receive compensation packages that typically include $3,900-$4,000 for time off, $6,507- $7,000 in health care, and $1,500- $1,700 in pension contributions.
School cleaning salary differences
You will often find that there is a slight difference in your overall annual salary potential depending on where you work. This is due to the size and population of the location, meaning that the amount of work the school janitor needs to complete is higher thus warranting larger paychecks.
It could also be due to special circumstances that are specific to that location. Currently the highest paying school custodial staff state is Alaska according the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics making on average $14.58 per hour or $30,320 annually.
Slightly behind Alaska is Massachusetts with $29,000, Connecticut with $28,530, New York with $28,100, and Washington with $27,760.
Again it is of upmost importance to remind you that these are the average annual salaries meaning that they are often slightly lower or higher than what is listed depending on various work factors.
