The best way to go about obtaining a job as a hospital custodian is to first gaining non hospital working experience. Because this is a job that puts strong emphasis on sanitation, hospitals often only hire workers who have prior experience cleaning.

This means that by performing some housekeeping or maintenance on larger office buildings, you will gain the needed exposure that they desire in their potential employees.  Other places that you can gain the experience you need are:

However, by taking the time to gain the working experience they require, you will greatly improve your chance of gaining employment as a hospital custodian.

In order to know whether there are hospital housekeeping jobs available for new cleaning staff members, you should call the human resources department of the hospital you intend to apply to.

You should also check the hospitals website (if they have one) as they often post custodial openings there as well to reach a larger audience.

After determining whether the hospital of your choice currently is taking in new staff, you should either visit the hospital to receive an application or complete the application process online if it is offered. List any special knowledge or skills you might have that could help you in this career field.

In the event that you are interviewed be sure to mention this knowledge because it can help be the decision maker when it comes time for the hospital to choose their new employees.
